Between preparing healthy meals for America’s students, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true superheroes!

School Nutrition Employee Week is the perfect opportunity to recognize the hardworking professionals in school cafeterias. SNA has designated this week to remind everyone—directors, managers, parents, students, and school staff —that school nutrition employees are superheroes that deserve some recognition.

"Give five - Read Five"  The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has launched the “Give Five – Read Five” campaign. As a part of this initiative, they are asking parents, business leaders and members of our communities to donate five new or gently-used books to our school.

NHES Spelling Bee Champion  Nags Head Elementary School (fifth) grader Tara O'Neil is the winner of the school's 2013 Scripps Spelling Bee. Tara, (left) and runner-up Ivy Doyle competed with school finalists Averi Creef, Nick Russell, Evianna Bocks, Jacob Devlin, Macey Haynes, Colin Goetz, Hope Rodman, Cee Cee Donahue, Mario Zyka, Flynn Cooper, Darcy Kampe, and Diego Hernandez for the title on February 8th. Tara can represent her school at the regional bee later this year in Washington, NC. Cool background - Tara's older sister Mary - now at First Flight Middle School - was a former NHES spelling bee champion.
